About Me

So who am I?

I’m Chef Jae (Jason if you wanna be formal), a 21 year old self-taught baker with a passion (and I mean a passion) for food. Give me ingredients and I will cook. Ever since my first food tech lesson in year 7, I’ve felt right at home in the kitchen and hope to share my recipes, as well as handy little tips, with you so that you enjoy them too! I also had the wonderful opportunity of being a contestant on The Great British Bake Off 2011 (series 2) and now do baking demos, write recipes and spend many hours in the kitchen (let’s just say I have some lucky mates, family and neighbours!) =D

New recipe every Wednesday at 8pm!

To contact me leave a comment or email me at chefjae@hotmail.co.uk.

For all media enquiries (demos and more) please contact Rodney Levine-Boateng at rodney@100acres.com.

  • Hannah

It’s such a shame you left the bake off, definitely should have been in the final, just wanted to say I love your style of cooking and you should carry following your passion because there are people out there who would love to try your food 🙂

  • bernice mitchell

Very shocked you went tonight. Knew Rob had reached the end if his journey but really thought you should have lived to bake another day 😦 . Good luck in the future x

  • Fiona

So pleased I’ve found your blog, and absolutely gutted you went from GBBO last night. I actually was quite emotional watching the ending! I really thought you’d make it through to the final, loved your imaginative flavour combinations. Please keep it up, you’re such an inspiration!

  • alice

Was really sad to see you go last week. Good luck in the future 🙂

  • Chef Jae

Thanks to you guys for your lovely messages – it means a lot!

  • Fiona

Such a shame to see you leave last week. You had your first not so good week – as everyone else seems to have had – and yet you had to go. If you look at the thread on the Mumsnet website under Telly Addicts you will see lots of people outraged that they got rid of you. Love the blog. Keep up the good work.

    • Chef Jae

      Hi Fiona,

Thanks for taking the time to stop by! =]

I’ve now made it a mission to perfect my pies in the near future! It sure is lovely having support from you and those at Mumsnet =]

  • Rob

Yes Jae, agree with all of the above – you most definitely shoulda been in the final. I think you got a bright future ahead of you though – you are very televisual – tell us you’ve got some offers for more TV work please – there is definitely a market out there for you. You are also an excellent role model for young people.. so c’mon Mister…what’s next from the Jaester ??!! 😉

Best of luck in all you do !

    • Chef Jae

      Yes mi fren Rob,

I would’ve loved to be in the final but hey ho (I say that now! lol). I’d love to do more TV work and work with young people, if and when anything definite comes up I’ll let ya’ll know.

      Cheers dude =]

  • fluffycho30

Yes mi fren….just passing by and thought I’d pop in! lol

Yes Jase, fantastic work on Sunday (Thornton Heath Festival), all who missed it missed out! Jason’s cupcakes sold like …..hot cakes, literally! lol

Hopefully Jase in the near future there can be some sort of partnership…me u and Mel and the name… MILLIONHAIRS CUPCAKES.. or maybe not! Cos I definitely wouldn’t eat anything with hairs innit!

    Love you loads Godbro! xxxxx

  • Liesl

    Hey Jason,

I have really enjoyed watching the Great British Bake off and seeing your FUN in the kitchen. You remind me so much of my brother in personality (who still lives in South Africa) so it’s been fun to see someone who reminds me so much of him.

What has been brilliant is to see your character. It’s SO great to see a young guy who is cheerful, descent, respectful and just lovely – AND gifted. It is such an example to young guys watching this!

    Thanks Jason!

    • Chef Jae

      Hi Liesl,

It’s great to hear from all my supporters out there! I’m pleased I was able to remind you of such good memories (even if I wasn’t aware!).

      Thank you!

      Jason =]

  • Zana

I was absolutely devastated when you were voted off last week on GBBO! I’ve been following you since the beginning of the series and was hoping you’d reach the final. Thanks for the recipes. My boyfriend and I are going to have a go at the mocktail macaroons! First time round, the mixture was stodgy and the macaroons were stuck to the greaseproof paper! 🙂

    • Chef Jae

      Hi Zana,

      Thanks for popping by!

I will testify to the difficulty of making macaroons – I must have made over 10 batches before I was satisfied with mine. I’d suggest you just keep practising and also check other blogs online where people put step-by-step pictures to really help you get it right.

Hope this helps and happy baking!

      Jason =]

  • Khadijah

    You should have won!!!!

  • Shaun

    Hi Jason,
The Nicholas family are all proud of you and all what you achieved on the Great British Bake Off.
You are a star and a positive role model to a lot of youngsters.
    Live the dream. Well done
Shaun & Carol and the children

[…] We watched this as a family (rare in our household these days) until my teens boycotted it after Jason was voted off.  In the final episode there was a little bio on the contestants including Mary-Ann […]

  • Naomi

Saw you at master chef live today :’-)
Thank you for having a picture with me!

Loving your website all your recipies look so good! Cant wait to try them!

Someone else has already commented this but you should definitely get your own recipie book! I would definitely buy it!

Well it was great to see you today! Was so amazed you were there, you were my favourite on the bake off!

    Good luck!

    From Naomi 🙂 X

  • Marcia

Props to you! It’s so good to see your talents have contined to be put to good use. You are an inspiration you young men who want to follow their passion; there is so much peer pressure to not follow their dreams.

  • Evelyn Berry

Jason! Watching after Christmas re-runs of series two TGBBO. I remember watching the shows & you back in 2011 but didn’t catch the second half when you went out. Had to google you to see if you were still out there! You are an inspiration….especially for young men. Keep up the good work!

  • wenndie

When I initially left a comment I seem to have clicked on the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now every time a comment is added I receive 4 emails
with the same comment. Is there an easy method you are able to remove me from
    that service? Many thanks!

It’s awesome to go to see this website and reading the views of all friends

Hi there, all is going nicely here and ofcourse every one is sharing facts, that’s really excellent,
    keep up writing.

  • mikronakłuwanie

Can I simply say what a relief to discover somebody who truly understands what they’re talking
about on the net. You actually know how to bring
a problem to light and make it important. A lot more people should look at this and understand this side of
your story. I was surprised that you’re not more popular because you surely have the gift.

  • Amazing Selling Machine

My partner and I have been well slow getting on the GBBO trend, but we just watched you leave, totally outraged!! Glad to see you’re still cooking, we are both total foodies and I make Jamaican food for him all the time but we never thought of putting it in a pie! We are gonna try now 🙂 good luck with everything xx

Hi! I just finished watching Season 2 of The Great British Bake Off and I just wanted to say that your demeanor and personality were just wonderful. I am not usually one to go and comment about it, but I looked you up and found you here and just wanted to congratulate you on being such a great baker and an amazing all-around person. When I saw Paul Hollywood eat your macaroon and tell you that it made him “happy”, you had such a smile on your face that it made ME happy, in my livingroom, five years after the fact. Keep up the wonderful work!

  • Emily

Just finished series 2 of GBBO and thought you were fab! You came across really well and were easily the most likeable, funny and warm contestant. Glad you are pursuing this as a career as you did really well (and who cares about pies anyway?!) Big love from the Cronx!
